Developers
Are Looking Toward Feng Shui
By Joy Abrams MA, FSII
The Chinese
civilization was one of the most highly evolved in the world.
Dynasty after dynasty brought forth important advancements;
the compass the decimal system, and paper money just to name
a few of these advancements. However, today the corporate
world is paying attention to another Chinese contribution
called Feng Shui (pronounced Fung Shway).
Throughout
Asia it is common for developers and all businessmen to consult
feng shui practitioners, and in America it is now catching
on as well. In Singapore much of the businesses of the city
center have taken advice from Feng Shui consultants. The rich
symbolism and imagination in Feng Shui is evident in the orientation
and design of the Hilton and Conrad International Hotel as
well as many other businesses. When a skyscraper goes up in
Taiwan the owners hire a feng shui consultant to create the
best position for the main entrance. It is the belief of prominent
businessmen that several major buildings in downtown Taipei
remains unoccupied because they failed to follow the dictates
of the feng shui consultants.
Here in
America high profile figures and organizations are using the
advice of Feng Shui professionals. Some of these people and
organizations are the likes of Donald Trump, Virgin Airlines,
Citibank, Chase Manhattan Bank,
Morgan
Guaranty Trust, The Wall street Journal, andThe United Nations
just to name a few. They have decided to apply feng shui principals
to create harmony, and increase productivity as well as liberating
energy and understanding its principals in relation to selecting
and building the most auspicious edifices.
While
you may think that Feng Shui is a superstition it does not
really matter. What does matter is that if you are a builder
it behooves you to know Feng Shui as it relates to a building.
Feng Shui is regarded by millions to be steeped in the scientific
realm combining elements from astronomy, geology and mathematics
as well as philosophy. The practice relies on the five natural
elements of, earth, metal, water, wood and fire and the relationship
of each element to create balanced chi. (good energy).
